Music day celebration at the Palau!
On Sunday, February 23, we took part in the 3rd edition of the Choral Music Festival at the Palau de la Música Catalana, together with the Cor Infantil de l’Orfeó Català, the Cor de Cambra del Palau de la Música Catalana, and the Cor Bruckner Barcelona.
In this edition, 8 world premieres were performed, featuring the winning works of the 3rd International Choral Composition Competition of the Orfeó Català (2019) and the 8th International Catalonia Choral Composition Awards (Federació Catalana d’Entitats Corals).En aquesta edició es van poder escoltar 8 estrenes absolutes. Es tracta de les obres premiades al III Concurs Internacional de Composició Coral de l’Orfeó Català 2019 i els VIII Premis Internacionals de Catalunya de Composició Coral (FCEC).
The women’s choir Voxalba, under the direction of Laia de la Heras, premiered Sonnet CXLVI by Laura Gustovska (Prize for Best Choral Composition for Equal Voices in the 3rd International Choral Composition Competition of the Orfeó Català) and Clavellets vermells by Marian Marquez (Special mention in the women’s choir category of the same competition). We also performed works by Sergei Rachmaninoff and Randall Stroope.
During the concert, each awarded composer received their certificate. For Voxalba, it was a pleasure to work on and premiere two of the winning pieces in this 3rd edition, as well as to enjoy the other premieres.
The concert concluded with a joint performance by all choirs of El cant de la senyera
